Your Hands

This week you started bringing your hands together and reaching for objects with purpose. As well you've been "mouthing" just about anything you can mange to pull towards you.

Developmentally this is very exciting. You're starting to experience your world through your own body. It means that you are relating to the world around you.

Nico is very impressed with your new talents. It's a sign to him that you will be more interactive and "fun" as he puts it. And it provides him with hope that someday soon he will be "playing ball" with you like he does with his cousin Nathaniel who is 10 month's old.

You especially like pulling your burp cloths off my shoulder, wading them up in your hands, and pulling them towards your mouth. Maybe it's because they're soft and pliable, or maybe you like the texture of them on your face and tongue. You also like mouthing my shirt sleeves and collars which is especially humorous and challenging when I'm changing your diaper. You pull towards your face while I pull towards your diaper. It's our own minuet.

You're growing so fast in every way. Everyday now you find new ways to impress us with your wit and intelligence. Everyday you encourage us to plumb deeper within ourselves finding new ways to love. So my question is this: If we continue to love you more and more each day and we love you so much already, what will it be like in a month? At a year? In five years???
